From the very first lesson with Hank Sanaski during his tour of duty in Germany, Elvis took to the lessons quite easily; karate became the ultimate physical activity in his life. Elvis worked at achieving the ninth degree of the black belt, which he earned right before he died.
Over the years of his karate lessons, along the way improving he enjoyed the impact and controlled movements with the full on concentration involved. There were extra benefits for Elvis knowing these moves, and using them in his on stage performances his karate lessons became a helpful tool on stage with utilizing his energy and breath control while singing as he continued to use his karate movements in his live performance.
One form of karate style Elvis studied was, Tae Kwon Do, which was an aggressive form of street fighting, involving the use of feet and legs for more aggressive kicking.
Elvis then got into the Kem Po style, which is a wider spread form of the art.
Elvis worked out everyday until the down hill slide of his life was having control leading up to the end of his life.
Karate was of great interest to Elvis, being a subject he was always willing to drop whatever he was doing to share in discussions on the subject. Apart from karate, Elvis also loved other forms of athletics, boxing and football were among his favorites, and he admired the strength, speed stamina and sportsmanship.

But his love for football was the sport of the gods; the guys from the Memphis Mafia — TCB would become his private football squad. In the early days, in the sixties, the games were fast, fun and sometimes brutal.
There was a kind of violence in football that attracted Elvis, along with the speed, willpower, strength, grace and guts involved. Elvis would spend his weekends glued to the tv screen watching the games.
Elvis was a one eyed Los Angels Rams Fan, he would attend the Rams workouts.
Elvis was losing interest in play tackle football; he was more inclined to stick to activities as karate and racket ball for his own personal exercise.
Jim Brown, the legendary fullback with the Cleveland Browns, was Elvis’ true idol.
